To each God or Goddess, one tribute.
To each tribute, the burden of championing their God
In the old days of Atlantis, these games decided who would be the Ruling God of Atlantis.
And to the victorious champion, the favor of their God or Goddess.
Only time will tell if this old tradition remains honored among the Gods and Goddesses themselves

Three days left and the Croatoan Virus is at a head. Nearly half the island has either been turned or killed (or is in the process of either of these)

Reminder that all the plans made for CV and the details for the event are over here.

To make week 23 a little easier, I'm compiling a list of who died, who got infected and who will be dying at the end of the event.
This way there is an easy reference for when people are showing back up.

Reminder that at 11:59 PM on June 23rd, anyone who is infected that has not been killed during the event will succumb to the virus and die, only to wake up in the catacombs three days later on the morning of the 26th. Anyone who is killed during the course of the event itself will wake up in the catacombs on the 24th.

If plans have changed or you want to help me out by adding people to the list, just reply to the post!

Killed during the event and returning on the 24th:
Derek Hale
Kate Argent
Peter Hale
Douglas Hammond
TJ Hammond
Ethan North
Genevieve Hudson
Adam Greenberg
Dr. Whale
Jefferson
Grace
Anita Blake
Natasha Romanoff
Raven Darkholme

Succumbing to the virus and returning on the 26th:
Bucky Barnes
Jack Benjamin
Chase Collins
Remus Lupin

As many of you may know, there is plenty of housing available on the island! However, coordinating with people to figure out who lives where is a little tricky, so this post will serve as the place to hash out all those details. There are empty houses scattered across the city that people are free to claim if they so wish. Nobody is forced to have a roommate, though you can if you wish! There are also two apartment buildings to the west and east of the Town Centre If you would rather your character live there. All housing is free.

If you would like to claim an empty house, simply comment here and let us know which district your character's home will be living in. If you'd like to know more about the various districts, check out the locations page! If you would like to claim an apartment, simply reply under the building and floor you would like to claim with your chosen room number and characters.

Characters can claim buildings/houses in any district on the island. The layout of these buildings is up to you and the architecture is completely open. Atlantis is an island lost in space and time, it picks things up as it travels. Let your imagination go wild.

artificial_intelligence: (Default)
Atlantis has been around for a long time, and in that time it has picked up a lot of odd creatures and plants to add to the already unusual collection of native species. This is not, by any means, all the creatures and plants you will find on the island, but it is a good starting point for anyone who wants to go out exploring the wilderness! If you have ideas for others, you're always free to talk to the mods! We're pretty flexible and like to plot with people. Or you can just leave a comment here, if you like.

Rainforest
Any animal you can find in the rainforests of Earth has potential of being in the Atlantean Rainforest.
All manner of insects, birds, and reptiles from the tiny poison dart frog to the great anacondas. Pigs, tapirs, elephants, jaguars, antelope, primates, tree kangaroos, the possibilities are nearly endless. The Rainforest is a bustle of plant and animal life. The trees tower up into the sky and the entire habitat has a hushed, ancient feel to it.
Non-Native Rainforest Creatures:
Compsognathus - You may remember these little guys from Jurassic Park. They're tiny pack predator dinosaurs, but they are actually more often scavengers than hunters. Just don't feed them and they might not associate you with food.
Spinosaurus - Another familiar face from Isla Sorna. This sharp-toothed dinosaur is ahead of the times. She has her own ringtone. There is only one in the Rainforest. If you plan to run into her, we ask you not kill her. She is also the largest predator in the rainforest, (Sorry guys, no T-Rex here). Killed by Connor
Aside from these two you can find ankylosaurus, stegosaurus, pachycephalosaurus, various hadrosaurids, sinosauropteryx and other, smaller herbivore dinosaurs. They are only around in small numbers, spread out through the forest. It is not entirely common to run into them.
In addition to the dinos there are creatures from other places, and we love new suggestions for what. A few to get you started:
Chocobos, giant mosquitos, killer plants, giant spiders, saber-tooth tigers, wolves, unicorns, brightly colored rainforest owls

Mountains
The mountain range takes up much of the North-Western part of the island. It is a circular range of five smaller mountains with the dormant volcano, Mount Olympus, at their center. There are caverns and abandoned mines throughout the mountains and various mountain streams that curl their way down the sides to join the river that flows through the rainforest and out to sea. Some of the creatures you might run into there are:
Mountain goats, rams, wild boar, lava lizards, land iguanas, rock wallabies, hippogriffs, birds of prey, mountain deer, pterosaurs and raptors

The Seas:
Atlantis' surrounding ocean is full of the ruins of Old Atlantis, forming an unnatural reef. It is teeming with all the typical reef sea creatures, fish, sharks, sting rays, sea turtles, eels, octopi and the like. In addition to those there are sea otters, fur seals, dwarf minke whales, snub-nosed dolphins, bottle nose, spinner and white-sided dolphins, false killer whales, ichthyosaurs, ophthalmosaurus and on occasion the spinosaurus from the Rainforest.

Around The City:
Domesticated and undomesticated birds, domesticated boars, tapirs, and rams, island horses, rats, mice, ferrets, and various species of crab and iguana. There are also a small number of cats and dogs.

Admiral Matthias Hull

House of Kronos
Currently Missing
Appointed leader of the City and acting Admiral of the Armada. Matthias is fascinated by science and has a brilliant mind. He's renowned amongst the natives as the man behind the current network and the success of Atlantis' movement into a fully knit network of communication. He is a friendly and approachable leader, often preferring to wander the island and make small talk with his people, and the transplants, than sit in the Justice Centre. He has the marks of an Atlantean Leader tattooed in a blue ink that sometimes appears to glow. He is a competent leader and an excellent strategist, and seems very interested in studying the transplants, and everything they might bring with them

Commodore Justine Dragoslav
House of Gaia
Commodore of Atlantis' armada, Justine is an openly opinionated soul that serves as Admiral Hull's right-hand woman. Where Hull is pleasant, friendly and approachable, Justine has a reputation for being both straightforward and abrasive. She is, however, an efficient woman who takes whatever dilemma she may be presented with by the horns. Her men seem to respect her, though there are rumors that she was involved in piracy before she took her place as an officer of Hull's fleet. While she may not always be pleasant or seem especially trustworthy, she's a woman who gets things done and her concern for the well-being of Atlantis appears to be genuine. She is interested in the study of magic and the god-given talents that many newcomers seem to possess, as opposed to Hull's focus on technology.

Air Marshal Nicholas Witt
House of Ouranos
In charge of the Atlantean Air Fleet. Initially it was believed he was a transplant like the other people on the island, but over time it came out that he is actually a native Atlantean. He's been butting heads with Hull a lot lately and there are rumors he may be stepping down from the position soon.

Dex (Experiment #018)
Rogue Experiment | Wilderness Defense
Dex was once an ordinary Raptor living within the Mountains of Atlantis. He was upgraded with Atlantean technology. A chip in his brain allows him to process and learn at an alarming rate. His body is covered in plated silver armor that is light and flexible but extremely strong. While he is capable of posting to the network, Dex prefers to live in the solitude of the island's wilderness. He is strong, powerful and a quick thinker, but still much more wild beast than anything else. If you plan to pay him a visit you better bring him a gift, or you may end up on the menu. Dex is a fierce predator, and he will not hesitate to attack any he sees as a threat. He has a funny way of speaking, be prepared to do some careful translating. Surprisingly, if you give him food, Dex is actually pretty friendly. Like an overgrown German Shepard with very sharp teeth.

Dolphin Jones
Aquatic Terrain Specialist | Razor-Jaw Fleet Captain
Unless you speak Dolphin, Dolphin Jones communicates through text thanks to a chip wired into his brain. He's the smartest Dolphin ever to swim the twenty seas, but you didn't hear it from us. This Aquatic monstrosity is far removed from his agile, graceful brethren. Covered in bulky metal and sensor enhancers, he is a none too pretty sight to look at, nor is his fleet of enhanced Razor Jaws. Sharks with mental inhibitors to keep them in line, they are deadly fast killers and excellent scouts of the sea surrounding Atlantis. In short, if you plan on getting into the water, don't be on Jones' bad side. This augmented mammal is no Flipper.

'Kristoph' Kronos

Currently Missing
This is the guy who runs the island, folks. Not that he's advertising that fact, but he's pretty much here to - no let me start over, you're all here for him to fuck with. This island is his sandbox and you're just going to have to learn to deal, whether you want to or not.Are you going to sit there and take that from him? Really?

'Owen' Ouranos

A helpful Atlantean and a good ally to have. What was that about greek gods? Sorry. No idea what you mean.

Atlantis
has been around for a very long time. Longer than the history books might suggest. The island is composed of a mix of ancient architecture and new buildings. Fresh designs molded in with old classics. You can find a little of everything in Atlantis, and that goes for everything from the people, to the fishing ships, to the buildings and even the plants

The City
Is divided into three districts around the Town Centre. These districts are referred to by locals as The House of Ouranos, The House of Kronos, and The House of Gaia. While the city itself is always changing, with new people and buildings being picked up by the island, the districts retain some semblance of organization to the city.

Town Centre
This collection of historic buildings at the heart of the island include the Justice Centre, the Market, an outdoor mall of vendor shops, Elektroniks Emporium and a large open stage where music, speeches and local plays are held.

Elektroniks Emporium
If you need a laptop, phone, tablet, communicator or other electronic device, this is the place to get it

Justice Centre
This is the Law of Atlantis. If you break it, you end up here. There is a court room, jail cells and an ominous staircase going down into the chaotic mass of caverns beneath the city. It is the largest building in the city and easy to spot. Often used as a meeting place or a directional marker

House of Ouranos
Built up on a hill, this district resembles the cities of Greece. It is built in scaled levels up the hill, with the summit being the central point of Marshall Downs' Fleet. The buildings going down the hill are a mix of residences and small shops, while the area intermixed and surrounding it is made up of condensed farms and parks.

House of Kronos
The Eastern part of the city, this district goes from the base of the Ouranos hill and wraps around to just past the Justice Center. It connects the houses of Gaia and Ouranos. While there are residences in this area, the majority of the buildings here are academic. Both schools, the library, and several academic 'scholar' buildings make up the main portion, with residences and a few shops mixed in.

House of Gaia Picture
This district is largely residential and the larger area of the three districts. The House of Gaia is what remains of the Old City, the ruins of which are strewn outward from the City to the Southern Shore. It is closest to the docks, and many of the open shops in the city are located here.

Atlas Tiered School House of Kronos
Elementary, Middle and High School all rolled into one. This learning center is located in what was once a massive hall. The main hall acts as a lunchroom with three floors on either side of smaller rooms that serve as classrooms. There is a big ball court out back for playing various sports or enjoying the fresh air. The front leads to gardens with statues and fountains scattered about. The varying sports teams run under the mascot of The Flying Squids

Atlas University House of Kronos
Higher learning. Located atop the highest point of Atlantis' inner city, a large hill to the farthest North. You can find just about everything from Advanced Fishery to Quantum Physics offered here, and the massive, sprawling libraries offer more books than any one man could ever read on every subject ever written about.

The Academy House of Gaia
A massive mansion reporposed into an all-age groups school and training center by Charles Xavier. Students at The Academy get training in problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork building in addition to standard curriculum. There is also focus on individual skill sets and talents once a week during training sessions. Underneath the school is a massive bunker turned into a high tech training facility with help from Tony Stark.

The Asteria Planetarium House of Kronos Picture
The Asteria Planetarium is located in the Kronos district, and is open to the public twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The facility is able to seat about a hundred people at any given time, though it's rarely full. While shows are usually only scheduled during the afternoons and evenings, the planetarium has its own library that's dedicated entirely to the study of the skies above, with charts and books referring to countless clusters of constellations that Atlantis has had the fortune to see over the past several centuries. For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, part of the building houses a dedicated observatory, frequented by the city's scholars.

Belles et Beaux
A haute couture shop run by Elisabeth Clements in Gaia. It's the place to go to for custom made and otherwise formal clothing that can't be found elsewhere on the island.

The Catskill Cafe House of Gaia
Simple 90s style coffeehouse near Town Centre. Currently Owned and Opperated by Ripley Willems

New Brew Coffee Shop House of Kronos
Owned by Ianto Jones. This Modern Coffee Shop is located near the eastern coastal side of Atlantis. It's a small shop but it offers the best (This claim under dispute) coffee and tea on the island. Situated closely between the University and the School

Marauding Magic House of Gaia
Run by Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, this shop mysteriously appeared at the edge of the city. All kinds of magical mischief can be purchased here, including rare and beautiful island owls.

Plaid House of Gaia
Run by Alisha Bailey, this bar is both modern and sleek despite the old surrounding buildings. People of all sorts are welcome to come in for a beer, cocktail, or glass of hard liquor; the bar is well-stocked and even offers a special, exclusive, locally-made brew.

Housing Options:
Besides the houses scattered about the city, there are two apartment buildings to the west and east of the Town Centre If you would rather your character live there, just leave a note. Roommate services are available for anyone who wants them and the housing is free.

Timaeus Apartments House of Gaia
These apartments are in a refurbished old-Atlantean building with ancient architecture, but all the new amenities. The views look out on the untamed rainforest and the Pillars of Hercules or out over the majestic city.

Hephaestus Apartments House of Ouranos
These apartments are in a refurbished old-Atlantean building with ancient architecture, but all the new amenities. The views look out on the untamed rainforest and the Pillars of Hercules or out over the majestic city.

Critias Apartments House of Kronos
These apartments are in a newer 1900s style apartment complex, complete with revolving door. Views include the Eastern Coast and a view over the City of Atlantis. They are located near the schools

The Caverns
Caverns run underneath the entire island. They are vast and mazelike and you WILL get lost if you venture into their depths. Rumors run wild on what is down there, but all the old residents agree, nothing good comes of stirring up what lives down there.

Outside the City

The Pillars of Hercules

These massive marble pillars stand before the road exiting the city. Beyond them lies the wilderness of Atlantis. A massive sprawling rainforest and Mount Olympus, the dormant volcano. This wilderness takes up half of the island and is surprisingly, vastly unexplored. There are rumors that dinosaurs live in the mountains and strange beasts that live in the forest. Plants and animals from various worlds and times. It's not just people who end up on Atlantis.

Poseidon's Warning Picture
The abandoned building lies where the River leaves the Rainforest and heads out to the southern shore. It is deserted and none of the locals will approach it. If asked about it, they seem eager to dismiss it and change the subject.

The Southern Shore/Old City Ruins Picture
All new transplants will awake on the Southern Shore. It is up to you when and where along the coast they may find themselves, but they are sure to find themselves near ruins wherever they happen.

Near the large, sprawling bay is a collection of ruined and crumbling old buildings and statues of the old city, trailing off deep into the ocean for half a mile. This is what is left of the Old City. Reclaimed by the sea. Sharks, dolphins, giant octopi and other sea creatures now inhabit the ruins, but they are free for you to explore. At your own risk, of course.

The Rainforest Picture
Most of the Western part of the island is taken up by Rainforest. Full of deadly plants and animals, it is vastly unexplored. Venturing into the Rainforest is a dangerous endeavor, and it is very easy to lose your way or become turned around. The only sure path through the forest is along the river. The river which all creatures within the rainforest go to to drink.

The Mountains Picture
The southernmost of this five-mountain chain is home to Dex [personal profile] dexignated and his raptors. The mountains vary drastically in height, with the two northernmost being the tallest, high enough to be snowcapped despite the weather the rest of the island might be experiencing at any given time. The other three mountains are home to a number of ruins, many of which lead to expansive caverns and man-made structures that will lead any intrepid explorer directly into the heart of the mountain. Even now, it's said that no one has ever managed to explore these ruins completely, though many have tried and failed, losing their way or finding themselves trapped deep within the tunnels, both natural and man-made.

Mt. Olympus  Picture
The affectionately named, dormant volcano towers above its five surrounding brothers. It is highly respected by the Atlanteans, and visible from the city. Looking over the top will give a view into the cool, dead crater, but the sleeping volcano is never assumed to be dead. Merely sleeping. Try not to anger the Gods and bring its wrath down upon the city.

The Coliseum
While there are no opposing schools to challenge, the Coliseum often holds 'friendly' competitions. Each District has their own team, and the three compete in various sports of different levels. The Coliseum is on the far Eastern side of the Southern Shore.
House of Gaia - The Atlantic Hippocamps
House of Kronos -  The Nemean Lions
House of Ouranos - The Fighting Gryphons

Tethys Harbor/Docks
Tethys Harbor is a natural harbor that the Atlanteans have chosen to take full advantage of and expand upon. The water here is deep enough for even the largest ships to be moored safely, though a number of the vessals present are smaller, privately owned boats. There are several smaller docks present, as well as a long, white-stone pier with a number of viewing scopes erected at the very end. A large galleon referred to only as the Kharybdis is docked at the western end of the harbor, and is under constant guard, with two men posted at its personal dock at all times.

You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Where is that, you might ask? Well, we like to call this lovely island Atlantis. It's our home, and now, it's your home too! What's that? You want to leave? Sorry, Jim. I'm afraid you can't do that right now. See, Atlantis is a tricky place. People come and go, but never by choice. The harder you try to leave- well- Let's just say it isn't wise to poke at what you don't understand. But I'm sure you will discover more of that on your own time. For now, why don't you make yourself feel at home? There are plenty of lovely and not at all suspiciously empty homes on Atlantis. The population really has suffered in the last few centuries. Why don't you wander around and explore? I'm sure you'll find something to help you pass the time. Perhaps you'd like to join The Flying Squids over at Atlas High School? Or maybe you'll find a job, open up a shop, or become an explorer of the underground caverns that make our island seem like it's built on swiss cheese. That's up to you, we won't stop you. Just try not to stray too far out to sea. We wouldn't want the falls to take you over the edge, now would we?

All legends have their basis in truth, and like most legends, Atlantis was once a very real place. It still is, though many scholars would scoff at you sooner than listen if you tried to tell them so. Here on Atlantis, people have come to terms with the strange ways of their unusual island. It exists in no one particular location. Each night the stars above Atlantis seem to show a different place. Strange constellations, unexplained planets, foreign moons. The tides come and go and the only thing that remains the same is the ocean around Atlantis itself. It stretches out for miles, only to reach a sharp drop off, shrouded in mists. The currents shove almost violently back to the island, but if you are forceful enough to shove forward, you will find yourself tumbling down an endless waterfall, only to wake on the steps of the shore of the Old City Ruins, thoroughly drenched and covered in sand.

But today, intrepid new explorers, you find yourself waking there dry and in your own clothing. Greeted to the bright, warm Atlantean sun and the sound of gulls crying in the distance. There are boats on the water of many designs and styles, all seem to be tossing their nets, the daily fishing crews. Wandering about the ruins are Atlanteans who will cheerful greet you with a smile or a hand shake. Languages of all types are spoken here, though English seems to dominate. If you had an electronic device on you when you woke, you will find it has connected to the City's network. If you didn't, well, someone will surely show you the way to the Elektroniks Emporium to get one for yourself. For now? Explore, wander, get something to eat or drink. Don't be frightened of the strange food. It almost certainly isn't poisonous.

Welcome to Atlantis

A city lost from time and space, half deserted but definitely inhabited, by people from all times and worlds. No one knows how you end up in Atlantis or why, nor can they explain the mysterious disappearances that happen now and again, but they do manage to live in relative peace, here in their great city. If you didn't have a phone or laptop on you when you arrived, you can pick one up at one of the stores in the city's center. What, you thought they didn't have power in Atlantis? It is one of the most advanced cities ever built. You didn't think they'd sit on their thumbs just because their island got lost, did you?

Settle in and enjoy your stay. Who knows how long you might be stuck here?
