FAQ

Feeling a little lost? Here are some Questions we thought you might be wondering about! If your questions aren't answered, feel free to ask either here or on the Anonymous Mod Post

For those who are curious, we do not do applications. Atlantis is a player-driven musebox and the anonymous mods are around mainly to make sure everything remains civil, or to answer questions people may have!  If you're curious about joining just check the taken post. If the character you want to play isn't taken, then feel free to come try us out. There is a 5 character limit to keep things reasonable, but otherwise just have fun!

Wat is A Lost Network?

Where are we?
This is Atlantis, a large, tropical island. There is one massive sprawling city that covers the North and East of the Island. The south is covered in ruins of the Old City and the entire West half of the island is wilderness. South West being rainforest and the North west being mainly mountains with the towering dormant volcano, Mount Olympus at their center. Atlantis is a wandering island, it never rests in one place for long, and sometimes it takes with it pieces of other times and places it has been.

What is the City like?
There is a combination of re-purposed ancient buildings and newer architecture. The city is vastly unpopulated for it's size, roughly 400 miles2 /1000 km2 but despite the large number of empty buildings Town Centre is always a bustle of trade and business. The population is around 5,000 people.

What do we do for money?
While a lot of the business that goes on in Atlantis is actually trade based, most vendors also accept chips. Chips can be earned from any work place, by collecting treasure and trading it to the Treasurer of the Justice Centre or by doing Island-wide chores. You are free to assume your character has earned their chips doing anything you like. Pretty much everything you can buy or trade for on the island is easy to negotiate for. Atlanteans don't seem too concerned by it.

Atlanteans?
Well, most of the surviving population isn't actually Atlantean. There are a good number of Atlantean descendents but a lot of the population are transplants, just like your character! For the most part they are friendly and happy to see newcomers. New people mean new hands to help keep the city functioning.

Can I go exploring?
You sure can! There are plenty of options, too, but each with risks of their own. The mountains are a bit treacherous for the inexperienced climber and rumored to be home to dinosaurs and other beasts. The Rainforest is massive and easy to lose your way in. The southern shores contain the Old City Ruins which fall off into the sea and outwards for a mile or so. There are all manner of sea creature in these waters, but the treasure could be worth the risk. And if you are truly reckless and 'brave' you can take your chances in the endless maze of caverns beneath the city.

What sort of animals are on and around the island?
There's a brief idea of what you can find here with more plants and animals being added as the island picks them up. However, anything smaller than the approximate size of a blue whale or a large dinosaur could find its way onto the island during Atlantis' travels.

Possessions from home
Your character can bring anything they can carry with them and anything that might have washed up on the shore. In addition to this, the island can pick up buildings and other large things from 'home', just comment on the locations post or ask the mods and we will help determine if it is reasonable! (You can bring cars but there are very few roads in Atlantis and no known gasoline sources. Sorry.)

Transportation
No Cars? Well, no, not many, but there are flying ships, all manner of boats, wild and tame horses, there might even be a chocobo or two around. Atlanteans use animal-drawn carts to transport goods around the city. The flying ships are difficult to come by, but worth the trouble. You might find some in different states of disrepair out in the wilderness. Why not haul them back and see if someone can fix them for you?

Pets
All manner of animals live on Atlantis. If your character has a pet, they're free to bring it with them. Wants one? Feel free to go out and try to tame one.

Can I set up a plot?
You sure can! Player-run plots are what keep Atlantis alive.

Does my character keep their powers/magic/etc?
Sure do! Your characters keep any abilities they had before coming. We only ask you be respectful about other people and make sure no one ends up god-modding each other. When in doubt, contact your RP-mates and plot it out.

Why can't characters just leave?
The mists around the edge of the island are a strange and magical thing no one has yet to explain. Go too far in any direction (upwards included) and you will wake up back on the Southern shore. You're just going to have to get used to living here.

Network?
It's an open 'social' network. You can send messages in #Audio, #Video or #Text format. Either to the network as a whole, or specific individuals. If you don't have a network compatible device, you can get one at Elektroniks Emporium. Everyone can see the network, from anywhere on the island if they have a device that can connect to it. You can lock posts to specific people or 'groups'.

Logs
A Who, what, when, where format will make it easier for people to know what is going on. Warnings if necessary. Please tag logs with the #log tag and either #open or #closed

Who are the NPCs and can I play with them?
While there are not many around, you can find out more about the NPCs over here.Otherwise there are around 5,000 native or new atlanteans around from all kinds of universes. Feel free to let your imagination run wild. Just don't NPC any characters that other people could potentially want to play. Stick to 'original characters' whenever possible.
